Great pics, even if they're not quite as photogenic as Snowy Owls....

Nice pics, Elizabeth. The blue skies always make Snowies look great. Interesting to see just how strongly the red of the roof reflects on the white feathers too.

Been lucky enough to have seen one of these over here too. A long stayer on the west coast that hung around with Mallards and I believe produced hybrid youngsters. Took us a few hours of searching and as we were about to give up it flew past us. Had also seen my first Pied Billed Grebe (another long...View More

A lot like our Sparrowhawk. That same sharp focus in the stare.

Didn't help that it was found on a private stretch of river and 'public' viewing spots were limited (and mostly at the bottom of a long muddy, steep slope (I believe)). When it first ...View More

I feel bad that some birds get lost. The Ross’s Goose is with a flock of Canadian Geese and there is also a Snow Goose with a separate flock of Canadians.

I'm currently reading a new book - Vagrancy In Birds by Alexander James & James Gilroy - which goes into detail about why some birds turn up in places they aren't expected to (or at least as far as the current science and reserach shows). Quite an interesting book.
