About Us
Rockjumper Worldwide Birding Adventures is a dedicated bird tour company specializing in top-quality birdwatching holidays and wildlife safaris throughout the world, guided by passionate and experienced professional tour leaders. Our portfolio of 300 different tours encompasses 100 destinations, including some of the most breathtaking and biologically diverse places on our planet. While our quest is first and foremost to deliver the ultimate birding experience, our tours are also educational, fun and excellent value for money!
To those who have already toured with us, we say thank you for your loyalty and support; you are the backbone of our business. And if you have yet to experience a Rockjumper tour, we look forward to hosting you on one of our upcoming birding and wildlife adventures!
Scheduled Tours
Rockjumper tours are designed for birders and nature enthusiasts, and the pace and emphasis varies from tour to tour. Some are designed to maximize the bird species seen, while others are more about pace and amplifying a particular experience. For example, tours like Cape Wildflowers or South Africa Birding, Wine & Big Game, are about saturating ourselves in what South Africa is all about. While our Colombia 1000 Birds Mega trip is about trying to see as many birds as possible in an exceptionally bird-rich country. Nestled between these ends of the tour spectrum rest the balance of our tours, designed to maximize the birding experience without feeling rushed. And we make a point to include salient highlights in each region, be it the Taj Mahal and Tigers of India, Jaguars and Giant Otters in Brazil, or the Sphinx and Pyramids in Egypt. And we offer an even wider array of trips through our sister companies.
Tailor-made Tours
Tailor-made Tours are nearly 1/3 of our business. If you have a trip you want to do and/or a group you want to do it with, contact Glen, Rynart, Heinz, and Lisa at our Tailor-made Tours department, and they will get you set up. Email: private@rockjumperbirding.com.

Office Team

Our office team, based in Hilton, South Africa, is now working out of a new building designed specifically for Rockjumper Birding Tours. Run nearly entirely using clean/green energy, the Rockjumper office staff is exceptionally proficient at smoothly and expertly orchestrating the complex arrangements required for group travel in remote areas. Your questions are answered in a friendly and detailed manner, so booking with us is a pleasure. We do our utmost to ensure all your requirements and requests are met; whether before, during or after your tour with us.
Tour Costs
Rockjumper tour prices and booking conditions represent excellent, perhaps unparalleled value. Though not always (but often) the least expensive, it is important to compare exactly what you are getting, especially when dealing with low cost or local operators. Firstly, Rockjumper guides are steeped in a strong guiding tradition, expertly trained with the ability to orchestrate smooth and worry-free trips, while also providing a global context for the wildlife you see on tour. The service of a professional tour leader can make or break your vacation, especially in countries where even simple travel may present challenges. Our guides understand what you want in a tour experience.
When it comes to prices, and constantly fluctuating exchange rates, (including costs for single supplements and approximate domestic flights (if applicable)), we now fix the price in the currency in which we are quoted for that particular tour. The actual cost in US$ (where this is not the fixed currency) is adjusted according to the prevailing exchange rate at the time of final invoicing (usually 4 months before the tour). We also, on request, invoice in GBP and Euro. This amount, however, is converted to the equivalent US$ value when making final payment. (Please note: while approximate flight and single supplement rates are converted to US$ for the purposes of our brochure, the above still applies for invoicing purposes and these conversions are subject to exchange rate movements). And note that even though domestic flight costs are quoted separately, the Rockjumper office books these flights for you, at no extra charge. Our booking terms and conditions are among the best in the market, and we accept payment by credit card, wire transfer and check.
Leader to Guest Ratio

Our leader to guest ratio is among the best in the industry and most of our tours have a maximum of eight participants, providing RJ guests a personalized tour experience. For some destinations, larger groups are necessary, and on these tours we provide two leaders with an absolute maximum of 14 participants. The only exception to this is on some ship cruises where larger groups are the norm, with field trips in small groups, and meals being festive, social occasions.
Taxonomy and Nomenclature
The taxonomy and nomenclature we use is based on the International Ornithological Congress (IOC) list as published by Gill & Wright, and accepted by almost all ornithological councils and authorities. The IOC list is more regularly updated and is generally regarded as more scientifically accurate than any other world list. Our checklists detail deviations by other major world lists and fieldguides, and we are happy to provide checklists in advance of your tour. Mammal, reptile, amphibian and botanical names follow the leading reference works for the region concerned.
Loyalty Program
Our customer loyalty program is robust, providing a 10% discount (limited to US$600) on every 5th full (14-day or longer) tour booked with Rockjumper. We also give a US$300 discount to anyone who signs up for two back-to-back, full Rockjumper tours (excluding Essential tours). This is designed to assist guests who wish to travel for longer periods and make the most of expensive flights to distant parts of the world. We also offer a number of other timely deals and specials, so be sure to sign up for our newsletter and email blast to learn about these unique offerings.
Conservation Initiative
This Verreaux’s Eagle, Capone, is one of the many birds that we have been able to support through our continuous conservation donations.
The Rockjumper Birding Conservation Fund
Of course, our company would not exist without the birds and wildlife we seek. So in 2006, we launched the RBCF, which is supported by every single tour registration we receive. Every time you travel with us, you are helping the amazing birds you see. Rockjumper has a strong commitment to conservation and our community, so a minimum of $50 from each Rockjumper registration goes directly into the RBCF. Our goal with the RBCF is to positively impact bird populations and species diversity by supporting a variety of conservation efforts, from habitat preservation to captive breeding of endangered species, and we also support research and population monitoring. Just as importantly, we support community engagement projects that raise awareness of birds, and train people to study them, and then pass on this knowledge.
