It can be found widely in Uganda in gardens as well, forest adge etc. It is one of the songsters of Uganda and easily recognised by its songs and calls. Breeding birds get bright pink blush to back and wings-coverts. Singles birds or flocks are widespread and common in Uganda on large and permanent fresh and alkaline water. However, they can be seen on ponds and temporary waters only that they may not stay in such areas for long.
They are interesting to see as they fish by standing or walking slowly in the water, bills open and partially submerged. But what is interesting to see them kicking from back forwards to push the prey forwards. #Birds #Birding #Birdwatchers #Birdinginparadis #Birdtours #Birdsafaris #Travel #Uganda #ThePearlofAfrica

Singles and pairs are seen in savannah, wooded grassland, and semi-arid habits.
Of course they can see their prey from a hight of 10,000 feet since their vision is 6 times better than that of man.
They can go at a speed of 125 mph but can pick a speed of 200 mph if a prey comes in vision.
After a good meal, they can spend 5 weeks without food if necessary and they store food for several days to avoid daily hunting.
Most birds of prey have a habit of looking over their shoulders in case anothe predator is behind them but, Eagle don't because of their confidence.

A grey bird with a massive shoe like hooked bill. They prefer the interior of undisturbed permanent wetlands. They prefer solitary life although during breeding time, pairs are seen or even after parents and their young. They walk carefully on floating vegetation but prefers standing silently as it looks for prey. They are wide spread in Uganda but can also be found in south Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia. And yes they do fly as you can see. #Birding #Birdwatching #Birdinginparadise #Birdphotography #Birdingsafaris #Birdwatchers #Nature #Birdingtours #Johnnieugandasafaris #Wildlife #Naturelovers #ThePearlofAfrica

It inhabits forests and dense river-rine woodland. However, a few years back while coming from training guides in Queen Elizabeth National Park, I heard one call along Channel truck which is in the savannah. I thought me ears had a problem. I stopped, called it and valaaaa. Now they are two in that area and a few pairs across the bridge in the few trees within the papyrus. Anyway! That is Uganda #ThePearlofAfrica for you.

One beautiful bird that tend to visit trees around our home now and then.
Birds know their friends. Because they have not seen us in their homes, they came to check on us at our home since we've been birding from the balcony.
