Birding areas on Chirp can be anything from a national park or nature reserve to a bird hide on private land. If you notice that a birding area you frequent is not being shown on Chirp then please follow this process and we will do our best to get the birding area added to our database as soon as possible.
Step 1: Visit OpenStreetMap and check if the birding area you want to add is already mapped.
Step 2: If the birding area you want to add to Chirp is already mapped, then proceed to Step 3. If the birding area is not mapped, then proceed to Step 4.
Step 3: Birding Area Already Mapped
- Zoom into the birding area, copy the URL
- Click on the 'Feedback' button on the right hand side of the Chirp website
- Enter the name of the birding area in the feedback title
- Enter your request and the OpenStreetMap URL into the description field
- Select 'Suggestion' as the Category
- Complete other fields and post the feedback
Step 4: Birding Area Not Mapped
- If you or someone else is able map the birding area on OpenStreetMap, then please do so and then complete Step 3
- If you are not able to map the birding area, then click on the 'Feedback' button on the right hand side of the Chirp website
- Enter the name of the birding area in the feedback title
- Enter as much detail as possible into the description field
- Select 'Suggestion' as the Category
- Complete other fields and post the feedback
Why we use OpenStreetMap?
- Anyone can contribute to OpenStreetMap
- OpenStreetMap is an open platform so Chirp is free to use its data
- OpenStreetMap data is generally comprehensive and very accurate
