Have you already uploaded sightings to eBird? Not a problem, just download your sightings from eBird and upload the .csv to Chirp, simple as that!

To prevent duplicate records, we keep track of the eBird 'Submission ID' in your imports. Simply upload your 'MyEBirdData.csv' file to Chirp whenever you have updates and our smart system will only add your new records.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Login to eBird and open My eBird from the top menu bar.
  2. Click on the Download My Data link on the right below My Checklists.
  3. Click the 'Submit' button on the Download My Data page.
  4. Open the email from eBird titled 'Your eBird data are now available for download'.
  5. Click on the link in the email to download your Zipped .csv file.
  6. The downloaded Zip file will look something like this: 'ebird_1532736749262'.
  7. In your downloads folder, right click on the downloaded Zip file and select 'Extract All' and then 'Extract'.
  8. This will create a folder similar to 'ebird_1532736749262' in your downloads folder that contains your MyEBirdData.csv file that you will import to Chirp.
  9. Now open the Chirp import page, click on 'eBird import file' tab, click the 'Import file (*.csv)' button, navigate to your downloads, open the folder similar to 'ebird_1532736749262' and import your 'MyEBirdData.csv' file.
  10. If you are importing large files with thousands of records, please be patient while your import uploads and is processed. If you have thousands of records it may take up to two hours to finish processing.
  11. You can monitor the progress of your import via the 'Import History' tab on the Chirp import page.
  12. Repeat this process whenever you have new records that you want to add to Chirp. We use the eBird Submission ID to make sure we do not duplicate your records from previous imports.

If you have any issues with the process, forward us the email from eBird or email us the Zip file and we will process the import for you...
