Birding Trip in Thailand, birds at Phetchaburi Rice Fields | Birding in Thailand

Virtual birding trip in Thailand to Phetchaburi Rice Fields, with me to see some breeding season rice field birds. Watch this other virtual birding trip in Thailand too - https://youtu.be/k_8mgs-sXxg
Birding in Thailand rice fields is an experience that always provides many interesting bird sightings. The breeding season is a good time to see some species at their best, in their colourful breeding plumage including three species of weaver birds. I always visit Phetchaburi rice fields when I am leading birding tours in Thailand for its high concentration of birds and large number of species that can be seen in a short space of time. In this video of my birding adventures in Thailand I show birders species as varied as Bronze-winged Jacana, Blue-tailed Bee-eater, Javan Pond Heron, Streaked Weaver, Asian Openbill, Lesser Whistling Duck, Zitting Cisticola and the incredible nests of Baya Weaver; just some of the birds in this virtual birding trip. White Fronted Goose Arrival, Birding my Local Patch
31 views
White fronted Goose, Anser albifrons, is a species that winters regularly on marshes in Eastern England but in over forty years of birding my local patch, along the Darent Valley in Kent, UK, I have never previously seen them. When I got a message from a friend that there was an arrival of three White-fronted Geese (also known as Greater White-fronted Goose) in a nearby field I diverted my walk to visit this spot. These are Russian White-fronted Geese, the subspecies albifrons, which can be told from the pinkish colour of their bills. White fronted Goose is a bird that is used to very cold winter weather but I am not and it was quite uncomfortable recording these geese. I have left the wind noise on the audio to convey a little of how fierce the weather was while I was watching these White-fronted Geese. Follow me on Instagram - @nickuptonbirding

Murmurations of Starlings | Common Starling Flock
20 views
Murmurations of Starlings are one of the most impressive displays to be seen in British birding, a synchronized display of flight from a Common Starling flock (also known as European Starling). When walking on the North Kent marshes I came across this amazing bird murmuration performing mass bird flocking on bushes, trees and reeds as well starling mass flight every time they were disturbed by a predator such as a passing Marsh Harrier. Common Starling, Sturnus vulgaris, might be one of the world's most numerous birds and familiar to many birders across the globe but a Common Starling murmuration is still a sight to make most birders stop and marvel. Purple Sandpipers are one of my favourite shorebirds, always busy at the edge of the waves. I was able to shoot this footage of them before Christmas, in SE England.
Purple Sandpiper Feeding in the Waves | British Birding

PurpleSandpipers feeding in winter are almost exclusively found on rocky coasts. But, in areas where rocks are few, ma-made breakwaters make perfectly acceptable habitat which is where I found these birds at Foreness in Kent, Southeast England.

Oystercatcher Spectacular Flight to Roost | British Birding
17 views
Oystercatcher gatherings can be very spectacular particularly their flight to roost in large numbers at Shellness in Kent, UK. At this location Eurasian Oystercatchers, Haematopus ostralegus, feed on the mudlflats exposed at low tide and then as the tide comes in birders can watch the oystercatcher spectacular flight to roost as they move in small groups at first, then in larger numbers to collect at their high tide roost in a flock of up to 2000 birds. In this birding video I share one of my favourite birding spectacles with others.
