Can anyone help me ID this bird, please? I think it might be a woodlark (vs a skylark) because of the short looking tail and the black and white marking on the fold of the wing. Thanks!!

Hi Momchil. Not great with European birds but based on what I can see in Collins Bird Guide, this looks like it could be a Woodlark. They apparently have a pale-dark-pale patch on their wing feathers (alula or primary coverts).

Hi Momchil, correct in your thoughts on ID and as John has confirmed, this is a Woodlark. Super birds and a great song. Good spot.

Always exciting to add a new bird Momchil. I have only been birding in Bulgaria once and it was most enjoyable.

It’s great that you have been to Bulgaria, Andrew! It’s not the most popular destination. Birding can be very exciting there, especially during migration.

I saw this common whitethroat land on this perch a few times. So I set up my tripod, framed my composition and just waited for him to come back...

Fantastic Momchil, thanks for sharing. Numbers have reduced significantly around my home in Suffolk. We do still have a few local birds though which is good.
