Not an expert by any means but our Common Buzzards usually show a pale breast band. The red colour is more suggestive of Steppe Buzzard and lack of tailband would seem to suggest a juvenile/1w bird.

An unusual sighting for Cape Town and a new species for the garden list! The species distribution has apparently been expanding and only recently become established in Cape Town :)
