@vogelsgezien #birdwatching #birdsseen The Red flanked bluetail is a migratory bird that stays in Southeast Asia in winter, but also in Japan and Taiwan. Its breeding area is located in the northeastern part of Europe, from Finland and from North Asia to Japan. This bird is a very rare wanderer in Holland and we don't see him every year. For me it's the first time I see this beautiful bird. The Dutch name is Blauwstaart. #BirdsPlantsandMore #birds

My favourite bird (just edging out Swift) - as I've been lucky enough to find 2 of these wee birds, 3 years apart (2013 & 2016) in the same small wood in Crail, Fife, on the east coast of Scotland. For Scotland it's a long flight over see.! But nice for over there ߘ. I find it remarkable that such a rare bird keeps returning to the same spot for days. In the very large area on the coast. The first time they see this bird more Southern of our country now.

Seems to be a good year for finding them - though apparently it was a good breeding season in Finland for the species so expectations were quite high for numbers on the move.
